STORIES OF OUR LIFE
A mini-documentary that tells the story of your life.
Remembering and sharing can be both joyful and poignant. All emotions are welcome during our time together. I strive to create a loving environment where you will feel safe to share anything you feel.
At the end of our time together, you will have a true Family Heirloom— a beautiful short film to share with your friends and family, a set of professional portraits, and a lovely box to store your favorite memories.
Tell me your story.
My true interest lies in people, the aging process, and the questions and answers that arise, as one looks back and reflects on a life lived. Did we tell our full story while we lived? Do we feel that we’ve held anything back, that we want to share, before it’s no longer possible? What if we could do that through image and storytelling, for our loved ones and their descendants to reflect back on, whenever they wished?
How it works:
Many moving parts are involved when making a good film, and you, as the subject of the film, play an essential role in making it. As your partner in this venture, I'll need a good deal of your time and for you to complete various tasks to help move our project forward. Here’s how it works:
Meet and Gather
We'll look at examples of Legacy projects like yours and discuss what we'll create together in-depth. I'll walk you through everything and how I imagine working in our partnership. My approach and process are 100% collaborative, so you'll play a significant role in identifying specific details & elements that you would like covered. In addition, we'll review the contract, pricing, and payment schedule.
We'll book our dates once you are ready to start, and I'll send you your welcome packet, including your Legacy questionnaire. Completing this questionnaire is your first bit of homework. We'll review it together at our second meeting.
If you have videos or photos on your computer that you'd like to share, I'll create a shared folder so you can easily drag & drop image files, recordings, and documents to share with me. There may also be some items you'd like to request from family members. I'll help you compose the email to request those photos and family mementos.
Imagine this as an overview. It took a lifetime to make these memories. Now, let's choose the ones that mark your journey.
I'll organize everything you have collected for me and scan any precious or fragile items that should stay in your possession. I'll also pick up your Legacy Questionnaire.
2. Curate and Create
With an audio recorder, I'll ask you about the stories you've shared and the treasures you've accumulated in an intimate, relaxed space we have created. We'll discuss life, love, ups, downs, disappointments, and triumphs.
When was the last time you had professional portraits? This is an important part of the journey. We'll take some beautiful photographs of you; for our film, your wall, and the walls of your loved ones. We can do this at your home, outside, or in my studio. You'll have the opportunity to wear various outfits and try different poses. Most of all, we'll have fun!
After our kitchen table conversation, I'll review my footage. There may be a few sections I'll want to film as a video session. Think of this as the 2nd draft. We'll sit down, revisit earlier questions, and have new conversations on camera.
The B-Roll involves filming you in action. I could film you working in the garden if you're a gardener. If you are reminiscing, perhaps you are looking at a photo album. If you have a husband or wife you'd like to include or another family member, I can film you together. You can even plan a family get-together.
3. Fine Tune and Finish
After 6-8 weeks, we'll review the first cut of your film. This is such an exciting day, and often emotional. I'll ask for your feedback; what do you like and what don't you like? I do my best to accommodate client preferences.
After our first round of feedback, I allot 16 hours for editing and shooting time (in total). You will incur an hourly cost if the edits and revisions you request require additional time.
Three weeks after our final round of feedback, your finished project will be complete and ready to present!

Over the years, I've had the amazing opportunity to listen, photograph and help make stories come to life so they can be shared, enjoyed and passed on. These living legacies grow, change and become precious opportunities to stay connected beyond this temporal life we live.
The process can seem daunting and I want to change that. All we need to do is start.
"My Brother saw the photo today. I can't express the joy and wonder that we felt as I handed him my gift for his 77th birthday.
My daughter will get your masterfull work next Saturday.
Thank you so much for the beauty and joy that you bring to this world."
