The class starts with getting comfortable with your camera. To try out all the buttons. See what they do. The more you understand your camera, the better you’ll be able to share your view of the world.
We will then go on to learn how to ‘see’ the world through your camera and that means being able to see light! Light is the foundation of all photography.
Learning to take photographs manually is an exciting skill! By adjusting the features of the camera (aperture, shutter speed, and ISO), you’ll be able to create images that reflect more of what you see. How you see.
Each class will continue to develop your eye for light inspiring creativity and exploration.
In the final week, students will work on preparing and selecting an image(s) for a final project based on a topic learned throughout the course.
Small class sizes ensure plenty of support and discussion of each student's work.
Homework:
There will be weekly assignments to encourage curiosity, play, experimentation and discovery. The assignments are an important part of the learning process to promote better understanding of the class lessons.
Each week, your learner will be invited to turn in work to share and discuss their experience and ask any questions around the assignment.
Supply List:
A DSLR camera, or other camera with a manual exposure mode to adjust the settings for aperture, shutter speed, and ISO.
A memory card
Camera battery and charger
The cable for the camera or a memory card reader to upload images.
The camera manual. When I was learning I carried this around in my back pocket. So helpful! We can find it online, if you don’t have one.
A computer with an internet connection and web browser to upload photos.
Zoom set-up on computer
How it works:
The week before class starts, you’ll schedule a 15-min 1:1 call, for me to say hello to your student and see what camera they are using. I’ll be able to help them more specifically, if we can create a rapport before the small group class.
Meet once a week via Zoom
For the comfort and security of the class, all students need to be on camera to introduce themselves.
If they need to turn their video off later due to internet connection, screen fatigue, learning style, moving around, etc., they may, but in that case they are required to particulate fully via audio.
Virtual backgrounds are ok.
I will be asking them to use their camera during class so they should have easy access to the outdoors or a window.
Housekeeping:
If your student decides learning how to use a dslr after the first class isn’t for them, I will give you a refund minus $35. All sales are final, if dropped after 2nd class. It’s important your student wants to learn photography. It’s super fun and I can’t wait to help your child share their view of the world.
